J&P Building Systems is awarded for their innovative new design methodology for precast stairs at the 2014 MPA British Precast Awards

J&P Building Systems were delighted to pick up the Innovation Award at this years’ Precast Awards last week. Their winning system was developed because BS8110 and subsequent regulations required that precast stair elements were anchored to the main structure to prevent progressive collapse. This was the case whether landings were supported on steel angles, corbels or by discreet sliding inserts.
As a result, much time, effort, and cost went into connections between precast and insitu, to the extent that the requirement made precast a less attractive alternative to an insitu solution .J&P’s Innovation, completely obviates the need for any of these anchorages.

Cliff Billington (MBE), J&P Building Systems who picked up the award said:
“We are delighted with this accolade. Our entry was all about genuine Innovation. It wasn’t a development of any existing product or system. Eighteen months ago it did not exist, even on paper. Since its introduction, it has completely changed the market’s attitude to precast stairs and landings, removing at a stroke the main obstacle acting as a deterrent to precast construction.” Continue reading
